What To Do
Tell me what ya gonna do
When the trouble starts to brew
Yeah what ya gonna do
When the trouble starts to brew
Are you gonna head for the country
Are ya gonna head for the zoo
Oh man what will you do

And what ya gonna do
When your reading out your name
When your reading out your name
On that envelope so plain
It's time for you to catch
The next northbound train
They've got war-ter on the brain

And what will the children do
When they are learning from the old
To grow up amongst fighting
In a world that won't evolve
From the frustration of the pacifist
To the sorrow of the bold
Oh how old is old

And what you gonna do
When all the fightings done
Yeah what ya gonna do
When the battles lost and won
Are you gonna shake hads with the enemy
And pretend all bad is hung
I'm so sick I gotta run
A Long Dragon
Well we've got square eyes, french fries
Everyone tries to criticise
Because of apathy, lethargy
No one knows how to break free
We've got punch lines, dole lines
straight lines for walking blind
We've got companies, factories
Know nothing executives
Airplanes, sewer drains
People asking for more rain
Cattlemen, sporting men
Taller men and smaller men
We've got atom bombs, high aplomb
Dumb blonds and sing songs

The TV man says we've got it all
In a world built out of oil
A war has started we can't avoid
The future, the bomb, the timeless void

Years ago people would sing
Years ago people would play
They knew it wasn't unchanging
But they liked it that way
Time to find out what went astray

Time machine, time machine
Hold on steady, I'm unseen
Twentieth century, I believe
Disembark and perceive
I'm invisible, mind only
Minus bones and body
Time to search within these men
To find out what happened when...

I found a woman on the street
Thought waves asked if we could speak
But all she could do was run away screaming
Like she had met a freak

I saw a child sitting
Just sitting there and thinking
With his head bowed down
Oblivious to sound
He looked up and smiled a smile of futility
At a gang of thieves speeding in a utility
Burning fuel no problem any more
All was stolen not even paid for
And what could be found
Was stored in the ground
To be fought for and lost in the war

Of course this was only a theory
Of science from future represented by me
A future world destroyed completely
A science called guesswork history

I entered the young boys mind
He responded with almost a sigh
A sigh not of grief or even relief
But one of a lost and loved high
Sometimes
Sometimes I'd rather be an Ogar
Or a recluse living in a tree
At least if I lived my life out that way
I would not be disappointed by the girls I meet

If first impressions were all that I needed
I wouldn't care if she didn't have no brains
But when I talk it makes them feel uneasy
And sometimes it makes them think I'm strange

Sometimes I'd rather be a hanging judge
I wouldn't get no tips but I'd get paid
At least if I started out along those lines
I'd be the one who lives to see a better day

So why is it I never seem to make it
I'm not a criminal or a charade
I don't own a flashy car but I don't fake it
Sometimes I think I should have had it made

Sometimes I'd rather be an Indian
Or an islander living in the shade
At least if I meditated long enough
That lover of the mind would walk my way

Miracle of Hope
Stumbling through life
Not knowing which way to go
All of a sudden
I feel life is not so slow
One day I was young
The next I was old
I'm so glad You let me come home
So glad You let me come home
I would have been lost
Didn't know which way to go

All of a sudden
You gave me this feeling within
Never before
Have I felt I'm gonna win
But now I know
I can do most anything
Thank you God, I'm lucky I know
Thank you God, thank You God.

Sometimes I'm too loud to be liked
I know it but I'm gonna try
And if trying gets you places
Then I'm gonna make it

Well I'm just happy to be here tonight
We all feel happy occasionally
But instead of holding grudges
Against the people I meet
I'm glad, I'm glad
That you let me into your world
Colourful Cardboard
For five years now
The celebrations have gone on
And who cares how
The celebrations began

The music has changed
Or have my ears been wrung
A man paints sounds
As the colors danced and sung

A painting of the mind
Of colors bright and glowing
Words are not just words
They can be a river flowing

How quiet can hysteria be
As people march on the street
Someone makes a vague remark
About the eternity of his feet

If you look at my face
A change is taking place
A change that doesn't show much
But it will leave a trace
Reason for Believin
Given time and thoughts apart
I know I will start
To show you all my reasons
For what I've been believing

Given time all by myself
I'll jump back off the shelf
And show you all my reasons
For what I've been believin

I've been believing in you all this time
Waiting for you to be mine
I tell you I have really been waiting
You're not just a plaything
This time it will be fine

Given time alone together
I know it will be better
That's always been my story
In this fight for love and glory

Given time for love together
I know it will get better
Than anyone could imagine
Our loving situation
Guitar Cat
He's my guitar playing cat
My guitar playing cat
He's climbed the strings
Right off the mat
He's doin those things
Like no other cat
He strums it all
With every paw
He knows just where he's at
My guitar cat
Vanessa
Vanessa, from across the water
I see your window, do you see mine
Does the water make a line
Between us

Vanessa, farmers daughter
I think of you, all the time
Will it ever all be fine
Between us

If I was braver, I'd swim that water
Knock on your window, come inside
But I'll never cross that line
Between us

Ego Man
He loves a girl who loves his body
He don't use aftershave
He exercises regularly
And washes every day
He loves a girl who loves his body
Cause his body stays that way
And even if he is a no one
His looks will stay that way

Cause he's a superhuman, superman
Straight lace fandango in the can
Cornerstone to his fellow man

And if she don't love his body
Hes got nowhere else to hide
Cause if she don't love his body
She'll never find his mind

He loves a girl who loves his ego
His thoughts are far away
And what he doesn't have
He don't need anyway
He loves a girl who loves his stories
Cause his stories never change
And if she don't like his story
She can always walk away

Cause he's a superhuman, superman
Straight lace fandango, in the can
A cornerstone to his fellow man

He loves a girl who loves his humor
He's laughing all the day
And even if the joke is on him
He's laughing anyway
He loves a girl who loves his money
He's always got some change
And if she don't want his money
She can get out of his way

Cause he's a superhuman, superman
Straight lace fandango in the can
Cornerstone to his fellow man
Rise, Listen, Walk, Weigh
Rise up. It's time to get up
Get up, it's time to wake up
Wake up, it's time to climb out of your hole
Time to rise into your soul
Or there will be no time left to watch the trees grow

Listen, with ears open
Open your eyes and watch
Watch the people and know you can do
The things you wanted to do
Or there will be no one here to know the real you

Get out, onto the streets
Streets ahead of the other scene
Scenic views outside your brain
Forgotten doorways haven't changed
Like furniture you must be rearranged

Walk, out of your way
Weigh yourself don't hesitate
Hesitating loses ground
And you are worth more pound for pound
If you don't believe me, just look around
The Private Corporal
As I was marching down the street
Marching down the street
I saw a woman dressed in lace
Dressed in white lace

I was looking straight ahead
Looking straight ahead
But I could see her face
See her face

She was looking back at me
Looking back at me
I didn't know just what to do
Just what to do

So I marched right out of that line
right out of that line
It just seemed the time was right
Right to be with you

The General strode right up to me
Strode right up to me
Said son what you think you be
What you think you be
I said I'm no longer in your army
Girls At
Girls at sixteen, heard but not seen
Watch the TV screen, finding their scene
Girls at eighteen, fight to lose their teens
Dancing in between playing beauty queens
Girls at twenty one, no longer owned by mom
looking for someone with a castle in the sun
Girls at twenty three, don't want to be with me
How could they be free, I'm not rich you see
Girls at twenty five, begin to take a dive
So they team up with a guy who is over thirty five
Girls at twenty nine, the change in all this time
Is nappies on the line, crying all the time
Girls at thirty two, losing all their clues
Children go to zoo, to learn to be like you
Girls at thirty six, think hubbies playing tricks
Their head is in a mix, another gin and lemon fix
By the time they're forty three, begin to notice me
Hubbies overseas, potential divorcee

Didn't you hear, you've lost him my dear
Now it's too late, you opened the gate
Signs
If I go window shopping
Down the street today
I would see nothing of value
Nothing of use too
But with You I've got value that's true

If I go walking by myself
Into the night
I would see no signs of progress
Only signs of undress
But I know Your progress is best

If I've got trouble stirring
deep inside my brain
I know just who to turn to
to get me through
The one who is blue, that's You

If I've got nightmares racking
At my thoughts in bed
Then I know how to avoid them
Just to ignore them
They are a symptom of my poison

If You Can
Can you see the wind above
Can you see the turtle dove
Can you see the sea below
Can you see the river flow
If you can, please tell me, if you can

Can you read and can you write
Can you bleed and can you fight
If a door opens for you
Can you laugh and walk on through
If you can, please tell me, if you can

Can you pour a drink for me
Can you shroud a mystery
If the wind opens the door
Can you open up for more
If you can, please tell me, if you can
Sucker Punch
I went out the other night
I got myself in a fight
I got punched right in the nose
Blood dripped down upon my toes

Now I don't go out no more
I don't go past my front door
The outside world is too scary
I'm the only one with a key

I met a girl the other week
I listened and I let her speak
She thought I was too meek
She labeled me a freak

Now I don't need no company
Who needs insult and battery
And if you think it's unlike me
Then come and talk it over tea

I used to try and fill the void
But I got told I'm paranoid
I bopped to boogie, danced to disco
But I got told that I was schitzo

Now I live all by myself
I vacum floors and I dust the shelf
And when I feel a little inspired
I take a pill to make me tired

I tell the truth don't often lie
But all I got was a black eye
A seven foot freak with a might punch
So I'll stay home and smoke my lunch
